GOTTA DANCE STUDENTS PERFORM NUTCRACKER
WITH MOSCOW BALLET

Nutcracker, the timeless story of a young girl and a magical Christmas gift, will be presented at the Nash Theater at Raritan Valley Community College, performed by the Moscow Ballet, with a little help from students at Gotta Dance. The production will feature young dancers who auditioned in October for the opportunity to dance with a world renowned ballet company.

For the ninth year, the Moscow Ballet's touring company with Nataliya Miroshnyk leading the audition, has collaborated with Caroline Hidalgo of Gotta Dance, to present this classic holiday ballet. Traditionally, the Ballet casts local students, from very young dancers through teenagers, in roles including party children, mice, angels, butterflies, snowflakes, pages from several countries and more, as they travel from city to city across the US. Rehearsal Director Caroline Hidalgo states, "Nutcracker is a beautiful tale of holiday magic, childhood fantasy, and the triumph of love, peace, and harmony over evil. We are blessed and honored to have the distinct privilege of providing all 125 children's and teenagers' roles for the world renowned Moscow Ballet's production."

"The Moscow Ballet's rendition of Nutcracker features beautiful backdrops and scenery, and features some non-conventional addition to the classic story line that are inventive and delightful. The show is suitable for every age, and the theater at Raritan Valley has excellent seating, so even the smallest children will have a great view of this magical holiday story."

In a time when budget cuts hav severely impacted the arts, this production offers young dancers a rare opportunity to learn the process of performing in a professional production. Rehearsal assistant , Gillian Petersen, herself a former Gotta Dance student asserts the importance of the collaboration. "It is rare for students to be able to work this closely with a professional company. It doesn't matter whether these dancers go on to dance professionally or not, the experience that they have dancing with the Moscow Ballet will be with them forever, instilling confidence in them and building memories for a lifetime."

Nutcracker will be presented on December 18 at the Nash Theater at Raritan Valley Community Theater. Good seats are still available through the box office. Contact Christina at 908-526-1200 ext. 8267 or go to rvccarts.org.
